How do you feed your body? (PT2)

Feeding the body with information is my main focus in this post.

I believe this subject is crucial today, more than ever. We are surrounded with screens spewing information at us on our phones, computers, at home, at work, in the gym and even at the gas station, as we fill up our car. Whether we want it or not, we are informed of events, products, people and everything you can think of. Our attention is directed and our body is affected. Both on a physical level - blood pressure, heart rate - and on an emotional level - depression, scattered attention, inability to focus for long periods of time, anxiety, insomnia and the list goes on.

Are you aware of this? Are you sensitive to the level of alertness and stress you are feeling while you are exposed?

If you answered yes, what are you going to do about it?

No i am not going to ask you to quit using electricity and cast yourself out of civilization. I would like to share some tried and true ideas to manage your emotional body on a daily basis instead:

  • Choose where your attention goes throughout the day very carefully

  • Start your day with a gratitude journal: simply write down 5 people/relationships/things you are grateful for in your life

  • Manage the blues: try watching comedy while you are doing your morning cardio

  • Do not start your day by watching the news

  • Do not finish your day by watching the news

  • Pick up an actual book at bedtime and read the old fashioned way

  • Spend time outside and do not take pictures of what you are doing, really be there instead

  • Practice being present in every moment and keep your attention on the present moment as much as possible

  • When overwhelmed, create a list of the things that stress you out and take care of them one at a time

  • Practice eye contact when talking to someone and feel the real human connection

  • Understand the power of deep breathing and practice it often

I hope you find these suggestions helpful.

I hope you continue to Move and Thrive. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
