How do you feed your body? (PT1)
That's a loaded question, I know.
Feed your body with what? Food? Information?
I think its best to start with food. We all have a sense of hunger. However we don't always make the right choices. The saying "listen to your gut" is a brilliant one in my opinion. The gut - also called the second brain and for good reason - will tell you what it likes by simply signaling after each meal. The signal is pretty clear.
If you need a 3 hour nap after lunch and being productive is completely out of the question, you most likely fed yourself something that takes way more energy to digest than it gives you.On the other hand-if you feel awake and energized after lunch, you gave your body some available fuel and you are ready for the second round of your day.
Listening to our gut is something we have to learn all over again as adults. You may find out that you need a lot less food that you think. You may also find out that preparing your meals and making conscious decisions throughout the day will result in a general sense of well being. Today's rush around life style has us thinking this is not possible, but I will say this: if you don't put the time in in the kitchen you will have to put in double that time in the doctor's office.
Here are some life-hacks for eating right on the run:
Buy a cooler and pack it every day with a salad, fresh fruit and some protein rich snacks.
Buy a juicer at Target.
Have fresh squeezed juice in the morning after your coffee to aid the cleansing process.
Do not put sugar in your coffee.
Buy a delicious salad topping made of dried fruits and nuts.
Buy pre-washed mixed salad greens
Make sure you have extra virgin olive oil at home
Have some protein ready - hard boiled eggs, salmon, tuna or beyond meat products if you are vegan
Have a jar of almond or peanut butter ready
Have bananas ready
Drink plenty of water between meals
In addition to feeling amazing and healthy, you will save hundreds of dollars, because you are making your own lunches.
I know going out to lunch is a big part of being social at work. I challenge you to start a lunch club with your co-workers! Once the lunch out becomes a team effort of health and wellness, your work relationships will become fuller as well.
I am only giving you tips that work for me. Being a single Mom and running my own business taught me a thing or two. I am simply passing on the good stuff. I hope you find this useful and I hope you continue to Move N Thrive!
