Comparing Yourself
We heard this so many times from so many sources – women are comparing themselves to the images celebrated by fashion magazines, the big screen and social media. Sure, we do. It is impossible not to.
My question is, what do you do with that moment?
There is a definite fork in the road here.
Will you choose to compare yourself to the image and point out your every flaw until your self-esteem is in ruins and then drown your sorrows in something deep fried, crunchy and smothered in chocolate?
Or…will you simply notice the beauty in that image and realize that you like the outfit, or the lipstick, or the lighting, or maybe the Ficus plant in the back ground?
Loving yourself and NOT comparing yourself to another is one of the most essential sources of healthy self-esteem.
Within this self-love, within the habit of cultivating a positive self-image lies the key to becoming the observer. The observer who knows herself and chooses for herself what is good for her. This approach gives you the opportunity to feel inspired by an image and you then proceed to allow yourself to make way for that image in your life. What do I mean exactly? if you have been feeling out of shape and you come across an image of a fit body, you will feel genuinely inspired to hit the gym and get in your best shape. The key word: YOUR best shape. Enjoy your beautiful selves out there!
