Weighing in

Let's look at the subject of weighing ourselves.

Is it a good idea? That depends….

  • how often do you do it?

  • are you obsessed with your weight?

  • do you compare yourself to someone else?

  • are you aware that muscle weighs way more than fat?

  • are you aware that our body is an amazing, hormone operated machine that can go up and down 2-3lbs in water weight within a 24-48 hour period for no visible reason and that this can be completely normal ( us girls go through this every month …)

Tell you what - I threw away my scale a long, long time ago. I weigh about 143-146lbs and that's a pretty solid weight for a girl standing at 5'8,5".

According to magazines I should weigh 135Lbs.

WHATEVER!

I listen to my body. I have a few favorite clothes and when they do not fit me properly, I know I have to do a bit more cardio, maybe adjust my carbohydrate intake later in the day or choose a different routine because the old one wore off.

Or: have you thought about this one: May be as simple as needing more sleep so I can digest the food that I ingested.

Because I have a thyroid problem, I could easily get out of control with my weight in either direction. Listening to my body and understanding how I feel after I eat something is the key.

For example: if I am absolutely famished, eating something sweet would be a terrible idea. It would make me feel really sick, would tweak my blood sugar then make me crash, and the energy the food was supposed to supply would be gone in a very short time.

So I simply choose a complete meal, preferably with very little sugar or without any sugar, with high protein content, some fat and good carbohydrates (like brown rice or quinoa with eggs and avocado, or an avocado turkey sandwich on Ezekiel bread)

Take time to pay attention to your body. Run a food journal for a week and see how you feel after each meal. Learn how to prepare the foods that make you feel best and experiment with new flavors.

Remember-food should give you energy.

If you end up in a FOOD COMA after a meal it is a red flag for sure.

Listen to your body or just listen to your gut. Literally!
